Cape Clear Island Charity Fun Day 2010

With great delight and anticipation we announce the 2nd annual Cape Clear Charity Fun Day to be held on Sunday 22nd of August. With last year being such a success, it was no surprise that this year’s proposal was met with such great community enthusiasm and spirit, for which Cape Clear Island is renowned. The 3 charities of choice this year are again the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, the Irish Cancer Society and Baltimore RNLI. Due to the overwhelming generosity and goodwill of local businesses, islanders and visitors alike, a whopping €3,000 was raised last year to be divided equally between the 3 charities, which are close to the hearts of those on Oiléan Chléire. This year we hope to beat that record. The bouncy castle shall return again, so too there will be face painting, a cake sale, line draw, treasure hunt and a few more surprises that are sure to elicit laughter and gaiety!! If you’ve got hair to spare, beware! Some of the prizes on the day include a return ticket for 2 adults, 2 children (plus car, plus cabin accommodation) aboard the MV Julia, courtesy of the Fastnet Line, a weekend in Mariners Cove Holiday Homes, Baltimore, a print by Kevin Cadogan, various vouchers and much more. We wish to thank all those who have kindly offered donations or sponsored prizes, without whom, the day would not be possible. The flamboyant duo that are ‘Free Beer’ will entertain the masses throughout the afternoon, while Cllr Brendan Leahy will also sing a song or two to launch his album ~ ‘An Island in Time’. Several tracks on this album are dedicated to two much loved and dearly missed ‘Capers’ ~ Concubhar Ó Drisceoil and Pierce Hickey. All proceeds of the sale of this album will go towards Daniel Coakley/Cystic Fibrosis Association and The Stephen Calnan Fund. In addition, there will be performances by St. Patrick’s Pipe Band, recently returned from a tour in Spain. The Band will also stay overnight and play in Club Cléire that evening. Indeed, the fun starts in Baltimore as the Pipe Band will actually perform on the Cailin Óir Ferry itself on the 2.00 pm sailing to the Island. And so with preparations in full swing, there leaves for nothing but to pray for sunshine and invite you to come join us for a great day out for all the family on Oileán Chléire ~ Fáilte Roimh Cách!
