Cailín Óir Ferry Service propose to change the name of the new main ferry for Cape Clear Island, presently registered as the ‘Island Princess’ to ‘Dún an Óir 11’. The new name was chosen for various reasons which include the allusion to the famous O’Driscoll stronghold, Dún an Óir (Fort of Gold) on the Island, the use of the word ‘Óir’ or gold which resonates with the name of our first ferry, Cailín Óir and of course it was also used for a previous Cape Clear Island Ferry, a vessel which presently lies in a decaying state on the beach in nearby Sherkin Island. The new name will take effect from the re registration of the vessel. Séamus Ó Drisceoil, Secretary. 8 February 2011.
