The new ferry to be renamed Dún an Óir II will commence her service to Cape Clear Island on Friday 25 March 2011. We very much regret that this was not sooner but there was a larger than expected amount of tasks to be completed before she came into service. Happily her revised plying limits have issued and she is now free to go into the service. Following this the Survey commences on the relief vessel Cailín Óir and when this is completed the Cailín Óir will come into service while the Dún Aengus II undertakes her annual survey and painting. While the current certificate of the vessel is valid until 25 October next, a full survey is required whenever a vessel changes ownership. Fortunately some tasks that would otherwise be required for the annual survey have already been completed so we hope that this will shorten the period during which she shall be unavailable.
