From Tomorrow, Tuesday 10 June 2014 the shape of one of the most iconic man made landmarks on the Island is due to change for ever as work commences on the reshaping of the Bulls Nose. As the photos shows already there has been a breach made in the protective sea wall to allow a temporary access to be made for the heavy machinery. Following this a breakwater will be constructed using materials which are being stockpiled on the site allowing for the removal and replacement of the Bulls Nose with the prefabricated sections for
the proposed new dock gate. Apparently this will be a substantial undertaking involving the casting of the concrete sections elsewhere to be floated into position and then sunk. We look forward to a very special day on Cape Clear Island later this Summer when the largest single engineering event in the history of the Island is planned to coincide with suitably calm weather conditions and very much hope for a successful outcome. Meanwhile we show a photo of the new slip which gives some idea of its impressive size and width which should be fit for purpose for many many years to come.
