Visit of President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins to Cape Clear

accompanied by his wife Sabina is due to visit Cape Clear Island on Wednesday 10 June next. Arriving by Helicopter at 2.30 pm the Presidential Party will first visit the Island Heritage Centre, and then meet the Irish College Students finishing up in Club Cléire to meet members of the Island Community. The Presidential Party will be entertained by the musicians and dancers of Scoil Náisiunta Inis Chléire who have composed a piece in his honour. The Party will return to the mainland by the Island ferry departing the Island at 4.30pm. The visit is eagerly looked forward to by the Island Community. And informally Cape Clear has hosted a number of Presidential visits including Éamon De Valera, Cearbhall Ó Dalaigh and Mary Mac Aleese and Islanders are very much looking forward to this event. While in the Club the President will also unveil a specially commissioned work of art in Cathedral glass composed by Island resident artist Catherine Ryan, commemorating the Island and its culture. All the previews of this work have been excellent and all are eagerly looking forward to its installation..
