The Department of Food Business and Development, University College Cork is to conduct an interesting survey on Cape Clear Island to contribute to a study on rural resilience. Commencing on Wednesday 17 June it will be undertaken by two French students of Agro Paris Tech Clarisse Frissard and Pierre Louise Hein. The University will make a copy of the study available to the Library and the Heritage Centre. Having seen a sample questionnaire, it is clear that quite some thought has been put into this study and the results should be interesting for all. Island residents are, therefore respectfully asked to cooperate with the survey and to make Clarisse and Pierre welcome during their stay on the Island. See statement from Dr. Pat Enright of UCC below.
We are asking for your co-operation in a survey we are undertaking of residents of Cape Clear from 17th to 30th June. This will contribute to a study on rural resilience, i.e. the ability of rural areas and rural communities to survive and prosper despite challenges faced in maintaining employment, income, services, community supports, etc . Island communities face particular challenges and we have chosen Cape Clear as a case study. As part of the study , we wish to conduct a survey of residents of the Island. Two French students (Clarisse and Pierre-Louis) from Agro Paris Tech whom are currently on internship with us in UCC will undertake the survey commencing on June 17th for a two week period. We are asking for your co-operation in undertaking the survey which should take 15-20 minutes of your time. The survey which will be conducted by the students will be confidential; individual responses will not be identified in any way and only used to generate overall findings. A report on the findings will be made available on completion of the study.
