Culture Night 2015

There was a very nice gathering in the Club on Friday 18 September for the now annual culture night event. In attendance was a group of five young musicians from the mainland, Niamh, Hannah, Moire, Ciarán and Cormac who provided us with outstanding traditional music and song. Present also were three artists, Jacqueline, Angie and Eileen who will commence a 10 day residency on the Island next weekend part funded by Cork County Council Arts Office. Amongst the tasks ahead are some clay/plaster workshops with the Island Community and to this end they conducted a most interesting demonstration at the event. While the visitors were good our own musicians, singer and dancers were not found wanting as the photos show. It was good to see that Leah has mastered the ukulele and can now provide musical accompaniment to her beautiful singing voice. Present also were Ken and Deb Long from the United States. Ken is descended from the Shipseys./Sweeneys from the Glen and they were very pleased indeed with the welcome they found on the Island.
