Readers will be both amused and appreciative of the efforts taken to protect the 4,500 pillar stone in front of St Ciarán's Grotto  during the current pier works taking placed in the vicinity. The stone has been muffled in sackcloth, and further protected by  removable railings on both sides and best of all is the high vis jacket which appears to fit quite snugly. Sadly the stone lost a few chunks during earlier works and its reassuring to see the care that has been taken this time around.
