From next Monday 9 October the Dún an Óir will be out of service for most of the week. This is due to the replacement of an engine with a new engine and the installation of a new heating system which we hope will be a significant improvement on the current arrangement. The Dún Aengus will be in service meantime.
We have also received notice from the Department of the Marine that the Inner Harbour will be dried out shortly for a period of approximately 4 weeks to allow dredging to take place to deepen it considerably allowing vessels including the ferry access at all levels of the tide. This is to be greatly welcomed and indeed both the Department and the Contractors deserve our hearty commendations for the excellent properness to date on the current phase of the project. Nevertheless depending on the weather there could be significant short term disruption to the ferry service as it will be necessary to relocate the ferry to Baltimore during bad weather. We hope that our customers will bear with us while we shall try to manage the situation as best we can.
