  Tree Group 2016

A smaller than usual group assembled last Saturday for the annual tree planting in the Mass Track area but were compensated by the very fine weather and nevertheless made excellent progress in planting over 80 trees, sallys and alders at the north/eastern perimeter of the site where some plantings have taken place in recent years also. There are still a variety of other trees to be planted including alder, hazel and birch and these will be planted in the coming week or so. It was found that some larger sitka and pine have been felled due to the recent high winds combined with saturated ground conditions and these will be removed to make room for replanting. These newly made clearings in areas that are now well protected will allow us to introduce new varieties of indigenous trees. In one clearing, created previously some holly shrubs have been planted and if successful we make look forward to the day when the Island will provide its own holly for the festive season not to say winter sustenance for our birds. Photo shows from right, Mollie, Emma, Aaron, Aodh, Séamus & Steve with Debbie taking the photo. Go raibh maith agaibh.
