  Interesting Article on 1755 Tsunami

Readers will be interested in this excellent article on the 1755 and 1761 Tsunamis which affected West Cork. These originated in the Gulf of Cadiz, also the earthquakes also causing the great Lisbon Earthquake. Local archeologist Tony Beese has been doing some further researches into the effects of the Tsunamis in the area and found that the damage caused was less than previously thought. Cape Clear Island is of course very well protected from the most part from a Tsunami originating to its South, apart from the South Harbour Area. Buildings on the northwestern side where most are located, including the excellent new harbour and the  proposed new distillery will be protected from any future Tsunami from this direction.
