Cape Clear Family Fun Day an outstanding success
Cape Clear Family Fun day on Sunday 14 August has been an outstanding success. This year’s event was held in glorious sunshine and attracted a bumper crowd to a new look North Harbour. Many of our old friends were blown away by the sheer attractiveness of the harbour area especially the wide expanse of public space, bordered by tasteful stone walls and the generous new Pier. As a throng of yachts and motor boats tide up at the pier many looked forward to the next, phase which will see a marina installed in the North Harbour Basin which all hope will be commissioned before next year.
The area was festive with buntings, flags, balloons and the stage set (literally in this instance) for an afternoon of musical entertainment interspersed with the events of the day. These included sand castle and dam building contests, child and adult mini triathlons, dog show, granny race, face painting, a sumptuous cake stall, a water throwing event which descended into a fun filled fracas, various games, more music and of course a monster raffle. Of course the best part was that an excuse was provided, if such was needed for many old friends and relations to meet again on the treasured ground of North Harbour of Cape Clear Island and enjoy a day of play andbanter for all the family. As the generations mingled together, as always the sounds and sights of infants and children enjoying themselves in the presence of parents and grandparents provided a timeless tableau of life as it should be lived.
All were delighted when the Lifeboat and crew turned up to honor the event, all were full of praise for all the organizers, especially the dauntless Niamh and indeed also for the outstanding works achieved by Cormac O’Donoghue and the rest of the team at the Dept. Marine. Too many to mention but a heartfelt ‘ go raibh mile maith agaibh’ to all.
