Planning permission for Cape Clear Island Distillery
Supporters of Cape Clear Island will be relieved to hear that a final grant of planning permission was issued yesterday, 15 September for the proposed distillery on the Island. This means that no appeal has been made to An Bord Pleanála and that only outstanding regulatory hurdle is the matter of the foreshore license. By co-incidence the site was visited today by an Official of the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority with a view to progressing that matter which by all accounts is proceeding according to plan.
Steps are now being taken to bring the project to an ‘investor ready’ stage. This will involve various steps including the reformulation of the Business Plan and the establishment of a suitable legal entity to represent the various local shareholders who have already supported the project.
