We show some old whale bones displayed outside the Bird Observatory for many years now. We think they look quite cool in this setting.

They bring to mind an incident quite some years ago when Chuck Kruger, decided to obtain some whale vertebra and other bones from a decaying carcass that he found at sea and managed to bring it ashore at the beach below our house. The operation which took some considerable time was carried out with a large kitchen knife and I cannot recall whether or not he wore a wetsuit as he hacked away inside the monster carcass. He later told me that one two showers were rather ineffective at removing the odor and it took some time thereafter for domestic harmony to be restored.

However generous, as always he left us some of the spoils and these are a welcome addition to the collection of curiosities around our garden.
