Christmas 2017 on Cape Clear Island
As the Island gears up for Christmas Day itself the excitement is mounting as friends, family members and supplies arrive in unusually calm winter weather. We hope you enjoyed the wonderful homecoming video posted by Niamh on our FB page, if not we this is the link.
Last evening, the 22nd the Wren Boys had their practise and today at 2pm its Christmas Choir practise in the Church. Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated at 2.30pm on the 24th making it an earlier Christmas than usual on the Island. Christmas morning will see a canoe polo match at the new pontoon in North Harbour followed by the usual refreshments in Club Cléire starting around 11am . Christmas Day is the only day of the year when the ferry does not sail giving our hardworking crews a well-deserved break, go raibh maith agaibh.
On Stephens Day the Wren will again take to the highways and byways of the Island this time to raise funds for Cape Clear Trust. On Thursday and Friday 28th and 29th volunteers are invited to assist in the rebuilding of some of the walls surrounding the hostel badly storm damaged. This will start around 10am. Ní neart go cur le céile.
As the photos show, the Christmas atmosphere is well and truly established on Oileán Cléire.
